My main computer is a HP zv5000 battery- it uses the fan and heat sinks to cool the processor. Most people buy laptops because they want to be portable. They want to move around the house or work in coffee shops or the library. Unfortunately, you can’t always get as much done as you want to, because you can’t always find a place to plug them in.

This isn’t as good as it sounds though. The typical laptop battery (in a 14 or 15 inch laptop) is a 6-cell battery that lasts around 2 hours. They might last a little longer than that, or a little less. It depends on what you’re doing.

They are more expensive, but they’re a good way to get more work done while you’re on the road.

Those are your main options, but there are manufacturer-specific options. For instance, Dell sells something called a modular bay battery. You pull out your optical drive (DVD or CD drive), and install this vgp-bps2a battery instead.

Then you get longer battery life because your laptop has two batteries. The laptop uses the modular battery first, just in case you want to use your optical drive. That way you will get the most battery life possible, because the primary battery is not used until the modular bay battery is used up.

This just proves that each manufacturer is striving to improve in this area all the time. So always check out what your manufacturer has available to help improve your sony vgp-bps5a battery life. People keep talking about a revolution in this area, but for now, you have to think creatively to get the most out of your laptop.

Re-engineered battery material could lead to rapid recharging of many devices

Beltway for electrical energy solves long-standing problem

MIT engineers have created a kind of beltway that allows for the rapid transit of electrical energy through a well-known Laptop battery material, an advance that could usher in smaller, lighter batteries — for cell phones and other devices — that could recharge in seconds rather than hours.

The work could also allow for the quick recharging of Discount laptop batteries in electric cars, although that particular application would be limited by the amount of power available to a homeowner through the electric grid.

The work, led by Gerbrand Ceder, the Richard P. Simmons Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, is reported in the March 12 issue of Nature. Because the material involved is not new — the researchers have simply changed the way they make it — Ceder believes the work could make it into the marketplace within two to three years.

State-of-the-art lithium rechargeable batteries have very high energy densities — they are good at storing large amounts of charge. The tradeoff is that they have relatively slow power rates — they are sluggish at gaining and discharging that energy. Consider current batteries for electric cars. “They have a lot of energy, so you can drive at 55 mph for a long time, but the power is low. You can’t accelerate quickly,” Ceder said.

Why the slow power rates? Traditionally, scientists have thought that the lithium ions responsible, along with electrons, for carrying charge across the battery simply move too slowly through the material.

About five years ago, however, Ceder and colleagues made a surprising discovery. Computer calculations of a well-known battery material, lithium iron phosphate, predicted that the material’s lithium ions should actually be moving extremely quickly. “If transport of the lithium ions was so fast, something else had to be the problem,” Ceder said.

Further calculations showed that lithium ions can indeed move very quickly into the material but only through tunnels accessed from the surface. If a lithium ion at the surface is directly in front of a tunnel entrance, there’s no problem: it proceeds efficiently into the tunnel. But if the ion isn’t directly in front, it is prevented from reaching the tunnel entrance because it cannot move to access that entrance.

Ceder and Byoungwoo Kang, a graduate student in materials science and engineering, devised a way around the problem by creating a new surface structure that does allow the lithium ions to move quickly around the outside of the material, much like a beltway around a city. When an ion traveling along this beltway reaches a tunnel, it is instantly diverted into it. Kang is a coauthor of the Nature paper.

Using their new processing technique, the two went on to make a small battery that could be fully charged or discharged in 10 to 20 seconds (it takes six minutes to fully charge or discharge a cell made from the unprocessed material).

Ceder notes that further tests showed that unlike other battery materials, the new material does not degrade as much when repeatedly charged and recharged. This could lead to smaller, lighter batteries, because less material is needed for the same result.

I can image that in the future : I can charge my EVO N600C battery, EVO N610C battery, EVO N620C battery in a few minutes.

“The ability to charge and discharge batteries in a matter of seconds rather than hours may open up new technological applications and induce lifestyle changes,” Ceder and Kang conclude in their Nature paper.

How to Sell Your Soul on Twitter and Who’s Buying

What are you doing? No what are you doing Apple, Skype, Flip, StubHub and Box.net?? These popular companies just couldn’t resist paying off Twitter users to put advertisements into their Twitter streams using the new pay-per-tweet service Magpie. It’s enough to make you question the true motives of any outspoken fan and the end result is pretty laughable when you take “a bird’s eye view.”

We were disappointed when a browser script showed us a Magpie redirect behind a shortened link in a Skype testimonial today. Then we used a search on the service BackTweets to find out who else is buying fake Tweets on the service. It’s so revolting and pitiful that it’s kind of sad.

Each of these companies have more than one campaign running and these are all just from the last 6 hours! Magpie is spewing Tweets through peoples’ accounts all day long. All of the links are obscured by URL shortening service is.gd (hope they are getting a cut!) and the clicker ends up on the advertiser site. Clearly disclosure isn’t mandatory; but even if it was this is just creepy, is it not?

Update: As a number of commenters and at least one of these companies have pointed out, it’s not the companies themselves buying these ads – it’s most likely outside affiliates. So direct your frustration to whoever is in charge of affiliate programs at these companies, not in house ad buyers. Update again: Box.net’s participation in this program has been de-activated by Magpie based on the comment left by the company’s CEO below. The company says they’d been trying to remove their affiliate links from Magpie prior to this story running.

Update: Four days later Stubhub tells us they have also given Magpie the boot from their affiliate program.
Apple
We thought Apple was able to secure enough mind control with its design prowess that it didn’t have to pay for it! We presume that when most of these people say they bought one of these devices recently, they are flatly lying. Apple is paying them to lie like a robot to their friends on Twitter. Nice. Yes I found some one say in twitter: Oh what  a cheap apple laptop battery, I buy a Apple A1175 and A1185 ,A1008 in laptop batetry online shop, only cost me 200$.

We especially like that one of the users here is named “High and Noble.” Uh, yeah.

Cisco’s Flip

The company that makes those Flip cameras just got bought by Cisco for almost $600 million dollars – because everyone loves the Flip.

We know and like the people at online storage company Box.net. Their CEO didn’t respond to our inquiry about the use of Magpie, but we’ll give him a hard time about it next time we see him. The last user in this picture is an account that just aggregates other peoples’ Tweets about farting – and then throws in Magpie ads. Classy all around! StubHub

Ok, so StubHub might not be the kind of company you’d be shocked to find out participates in this kind of thing, but the informal language and appeals to family in this one struck us. Update: Four days after publication of this post, Stubhub contacted us to let us know that they are no longer allowing Magpie to be part of their affiliate program.

FatCow

Ok, we don’t know FatCow Web Hosting from a hole in the wall but the language here again is really remarkable. Dear FatCow “fans”: you are allowing yourself to be turned into a lying robot zombie for a few dollars a month! Have you no shame?

So there’s the Twitter-sphere for you! Bring on “real time search,” bring on a globally connected community, bring on vapid, vile, stupid shilling. It all seems pretty sad to me. And to the advertisers out there – is this cynical scheme the best you can do to engage with all the new ways people are communicating online? That’s pretty bad.

China bans Urumqi mosque prayers

China ordered mosques not to open for Friday prayers in the western city of Urumqi, which has been hit by several days of ethnic violence.

Public notices were put on gates of mosques across the city, although at least one mosque did open for prayers at the request of worshippers.

Thousands of troops remain in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang province, to try to maintain order.  Dell laptop battery

Thousands of people are reportedly trying to leave the city.

An official at the main bus station told the AFP news agency some 10,000 people – both Han Chinese and Muslim Uighurs – had left via the station since the weekend’s violence, double the normal traffic.

Some 156 people have died and more than 1,000 injured in the violence that began on Sunday.

Crowds gather

Officials posted notices outside Urumqi’s mosques, instructing people to stay at home to worship on Friday laptop battery.

But at least one mosque in a Uighur neighbourhood opened its doors, after crowds of worshippers gathered outside.

The BBC’s Quentin Sommerville said the mosque was opened without any violence and people were allowed to go in and celebrate Friday prayers for Thinkpad R50 battery.
